If you don’t follow the sun you’re a sucker
A tropical storm made our week at the beach a bit cloudy, windy, and (sometimes) rainy. We learned that weather doesn't make a trip memorable; enjoying time to be slow and enjoy each other beats it.
From a while back now, but some photos from the annual Bourbon and Bluegrass event at President Lincoln's Cottage. Great place to spend a mid-spring Sunday afternoon. And a wonderful place to visit even without the great music.
Backyard burn at pohick state park, Lorton VA.
Theodore Roosevelt Island, Washington DC. Seconds after taking this I was stung above the ear by something fierce. I did not react well.
Potomac River, Chain Bridge in the background.
An annual summer highlight, Bluegrass on the Grass at the alma mater, Dickinson College. Pictured are the excellent Coal Town Rounders.
Taken in Four Mile Run at Barcroft Park
Taken at the Barns at Wolf Trap, 30 April 2016. First time there (to see the fantastic Quebe Sisters); won't be the last.
Taken at Donaldson Run in Arlington, VA. Edited using VSCO for iPad.
Created, btw, using the awesome B L A C K app.
Great article in National Geographic about food waste. Every year about a third of the food produced in the world never gets consumed. They break it down interestingly into "loss" and "waste", loss being items not captured or thrown out during picking, sorting, storage, etc, and waste being items discarded in homes and supermarkets. Nineteen percent of all food is uneaten and discarded in homes. The only bigger source of "scrap" is the 20% lost during picking and sorting at the farm (most discarded because it doesn't meet aesthetic standards).
They also feature heavily Feedback, a global nonprofit that works to put in place solutions to food waste.
